Stop the Variance Appeal by Salesianum to Alter Height Requirement at 1801 N. Broom Street
Stop the Variance Appeal by Salesianum to Alter Height Requirement at 1801 N. Broom Street
The Issue
Living in the Triangle area, we have all come to appreciate the close-knit community environment we share. However, recently a request has been put forward Salesianum School to adjust the current zoning restrictions and increase the height allowance for stadium lights, and a baseball backstop at their new stadium on 800 N. Broom street. These items which have already been installed violate the current zoning restriction of R-2 (residential) which indicates the height should not exceed 40 feet. Specifically, the already installed 80+ foot lights have the potential to dramatically impact the current atmosphere in a large number of homes throughout the triangle neighborhood.
Residential building codes ensure that lighting is set no higher than 40 feet to limit the amount of light pollution that is able to reach homes in "residential areas" because of how disruptive it can be to families - especially younger children. A variance in the height requirement could impact this balance, potentially paving the way for disruptions in homes throughout the neighborhood during the entire school year. This could drastically change the look and feel of our beloved neighborhood. We value our current atmosphere, and our current community spirit and feel - let's not sacrifice these for unchecked construction.
We need your support to stop this appeal. Make your voice heard. Stand with our community against the disruptive variance appeal by Salesianum. Please sign this petition to help keep our neighborhood the place we love and cherish.
