Stop the Unfair Price Increase Of Mounjaro in the UK
The Issue
For so many of us in the UK, Mounjaro (tirzepatide) has been more than just a medication — it has been a lifeline.
After years, even decades, of battling our weight, struggling with type 2 diabetes, and facing the constant toll on our physical and mental health, we have finally found something that works. For the first time in a long time, we feel hope. We are seeing real, measurable health improvements. Our blood sugar levels are stabilising. The scales are moving, our energy is back and with it, our confidence and our joy in life. For the first time in a long time, we feel hope. We feel in control. And that hope has improved our mental health just as much as our physical health.
But now, that hope is at risk.
The recent price hike proposal is putting this essential medication out of reach for patients who depend on it.
This will have devastating consequences, including:
• Increased health inequalities, with only those who can afford it able to continue treatment.
• Greater strain on the NHS due to untreated or poorly managed health conditions.
• Severe emotional and psychological stress on patients who are forced to discontinue a medication that is finally working for them.
•Forcing to stockpile which could lead to debt.
•Increasing the risks of people turning to unregulated and unsafe backstreet sellers.
• Forcing people to switch to alternative treatments which may not work for them or forcing them to stop treatment altogether.
The recent proposed increase in the price of Mounjaro threatens to take away this life-changing treatment from the very people who need it most. Patients who have finally found something that works for their health and their wellbeing are being forced to choose between paying for their medication or covering their basic living costs. For many, that choice will mean giving up treatment — and with it, the progress, the health benefits, and the mental wellbeing it has brought. Patients shouldn't be forced to just stop treatment suddenly, we have no idea what health issues this might bring.
We call on Eli Lilly UK & the Department of Health and Social Care and the Secretary Of State for Health and Social Care.
1. Halt the Mounjaro price increase immediately.
2. Commit to a fair and transparent pricing policy so that everyone who needs this medication can access it.
3. Put patients before profit — because health is a right, not a luxury.
This isn’t just about numbers. This is about people — mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, colleagues - who have worked so hard to regain control of their health. Please don’t take this away from us by raising the price so high that it becomes inaccessible to the majority of us who are relying on it.
Please sign this petition and share it. Together, we can send a clear message: Every patient deserves access to affordable, effective treatment. Let us ensure that no one is left behind because of cost.
