Stop the Trump Admin from Using Government Websites for Political Propaganda

The Issue

Before the government even officially shut down, the Trump administration used official government websites to blame Democrats—even though Republicans are in charge of the House, Senate, and the presidency.

Agencies like HUD, the Justice Department, and even the VA showed banners saying the “Radical Left” caused the shutdown. Some federal workers were told to put blame on Democrats in their out-of-office emails.

These messages didn’t come from the workers, they came from the White House.

This kind of behavior may go against the Hatch Act, a law that says government workers can’t use their jobs to push political messages. Our government should be fair, honest, and serve everyone, not be used as a tool to score political points.

No matter what party you support, this should concern you. We need our leaders to tell the truth and treat public service with respect. Blaming others in an official message, when it’s not even true, is a dangerous path.

We’re asking the U.S. Office of Special Counsel and the House Oversight Committee to:

  • Look into what happened and find out if any laws were broken
  • Tell the public what they learn
  • Make clear rules so this doesn’t happen again in the future

Our tax dollars pay for these websites. They should be used to help people, not to spread political blame. Let’s stand up for truth, fairness, and government that works for all of us—not just one party.
