TikTok has over 100 million users in the US alone, who use it for entertainment, education, inspiration, community, and more. It has arguably become the most important plattform for millions of creators and businesses to showcase their talents and products.

Unlike competitors like Instagram, TikTok doesn't artificially limit organic reach. Thus, it has enabled the free spread of information and ideas, challenging the status quo and raising awareness about important issues. In a sense, it has leveled the playing field a little bit because it's not "pay to play". It gives small businesses an affordable way to reach their customers and it gives small creators the opportunity to grow much faster than on other plattforms. 

However, TikTok is under threat of being banned by the US government. The Biden administration has continued the previous administration’s efforts to force TikTok to sell its US operations to an American company or face a ban. The government claims that TikTok poses a national security risk because it is owned by a Chinese company and could share user data with the Chinese government.

But this claim is baseless and unfounded. The real reason behind the TikTok ban is not national security, but corporate greed and political pressure. Meta (formerly Facebook), which owns Instagram and WhatsApp, is one of the main lobbyists behind the ban. Meta sees TikTok as a major competitor and wants to eliminate it from the market. Meta, ironically, has a track record of violating antitrust and data protection laws and selling our data to the highest bidder, including the Chinese government.

We cannot let Meta and the government get away with this blatant attack on free speech, free market, and free choice. We cannot let them take away TikTok without any valid reason or evidence. We cannot let them silence us.

With this petition, we want to urge President Biden to stop the TikTok ban. We are asking him to respect our rights as citizens and consumers and uphold the values of democracy and innovation that America stands for.
