X (Twitter) has become a hub for disinformation and hate speech, incompatible with California’s values. Yet, the State of California still maintains dozens of official accounts, effectively endorsing its harmful practices. Requiring citizens to use this service for official state information contradicts our commitment to transparency and inclusivity.

Moreover, its owner is actively using it to mislead readers and push unlawful actions against government workers and public assistance programs. California’s continued presence lends credibility and financial support to these efforts.

We demand that Gavin Newsom direct all state departments to stop using X. Specifically:

1) Immediately End Non-Emergency Use: All official state accounts must stop non-essential activity on the platform.

2) Close Official Accounts: All linked state accounts should be deleted.

3) Remove Links: Links and icons for X or Twitter must be removed from state websites and communications.

4) Emergency Communication Plan: Immediately provide an alternative to X, and execute a plan to transition away completely.

California must uphold its principles and cut ties with a platform that spreads harm. We urge Gavin Newsom to act now and sever the city's connection to X.
