I am a concerned resident of Mulbring, and I stand united with my fellow community members in opposition to the rezoning proposal for approximately 30 hectares of rural land. This proposal aims to transform our cherished countryside into a 44-lot residential development. Our fight is not just for Mulbring, but for everyone residing within the Cessnock Local Government Area.

This land has not been strategically identified or planned for residential growth. Rezoning it sets a dangerous precedent: that rural lands can be repurposed at the whim of commercial interests without proper scrutiny or community input. This could irrevocably alter the character of our landscapes and impact the sustainability of our rural environment.

Our rural lands are vital to our way of life. Transforming them into residential plots will disrupt wildlife habitats and strain local resources, including emergency and council services. It will also lead to increased traffic diminishing the quality of life that residents enjoy today.

Moreover, the proposal acts against our region’s planning strategies, which have not earmarked this area for development. We must ask ourselves: Is it right to allow developers to override planning frameworks, particularly when these frameworks exist to protect our environment and heritage?

We call on the Cessnock City Council and relevant authorities to recognize the importance of preserving our rural heritage. Let us work together to uphold our community interests over commercial gain and ensure that developments proceed in a planned, equitable manner.
