The Issue

The Residents of Ashby Avenue - Rollesby Road are plagued by vehicles using their roads as a "Rat Run".

The drivers  turn off the Main Road, Moor Lane  and use the side roads as  a short cut that eventually gets them to the A243 Leatherhead Road via Garrison Lane; cutting off a large corner that includes  Bridge Road - Bridge Road Roundabout - A243 Leatherhead Road.  These roads can be congested at certain times of the day not helped by the ridiculous short length of Bus Lane in Moor Lane.

Drivers also use the "Rat Run" in the opposite direction.

Drivers  are leaving mostly  at  times of the day when there are queue's and  congestion on  Moor Lane and A243 Leatherhead Road, They travel at speeds well above the 20MPH imposed on Ashby Avenue and Rollesby Road so they ensure they beat the vehicle that was in front of  them in the queue.

We have asked the Royal Borough of Kingston South of the Borough Neighbourhood Committee and Royal Borough of Kingston Highways Team to install ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition ) Rat Run Cameras to stop the Rat Run and Control the speed of the vehicles.

The Camera at Ashby Avenue would record the vehicle entering the Rat Run and the camera at Garrison Lane would capture the vehicle leaving the Rat Run. If that vehicle was recorded taking under a certain predetermined time  (i.e. the time it would take a vehicle traveling at the legal speed of 20 mph to travel all the way) it would be fined. The Camera's would also work in the reverse direction.

Speed Bumps etc. just do not work and are a waste of time and money.
