The issue

I am deeply concerned about the recent proposal to build public housing on Menagle Rd, Camden, NSW. This is a personal issue for me as a resident who understands the charm and unique characteristics of our community. Camden is a vibrant and welcoming area, but it doesn't have the existing infrastructure to support a large-scale public housing project. Such a development would exacerbate traffic congestion, strain already-burdened health and education systems, and put a significant stress on our utilities.

According to the 2021 National Census, Camden's population has grown by over 20% in the last five years, already putting pressure on local services and amenities. The roads in and around Menagle Rd are not equipped to accommodate an increase in traffic that a new housing development would bring. Public transport options are limited, and the local schools are already close to capacity, which raises concerns about access to quality education for current and future residents.

Moreover, emergency services such as police, fire, and ambulance in Camden are stretched thin and often struggle to meet the needs of the current population. Adding more residents without ensuring these services are adequately expanded would compromise public safety and community wellbeing.

Instead of rushing into a new public housing initiative, I urge the local government to consider alternative locations with better infrastructure support. There should be strategic investments in existing infrastructure to ensure that any new development aligns well with Camden's growth capacity and maintains the community's quality of life.

Please join me in opposing this proposal by signing this petition. Together, we can advocate for a more sustainable and thought-out development plan that respects our community's needs and growth potential.
