The Town of Fort Erie is currently deliberating where to allow full-time, dedicated Short-Term Rentals. This is a Land Use discussion for the purposes of re-zoning. Unequivocally, full-time, dedicated Short-Term Rentals are a commercial use and are incompatible in residential zones. Amendments are being considered to allow full-time, dedicated Short-Term Rentals in specific zones that are compatible with commercial operations. 

The problem: 

Amendments are also being considered to permit full-time, dedicated Short-Term Rentals in certain residential zones in flagrant disregard of Provincial Planning principles. The concern for financial gains of a handful of real estate investors is overshadowing the rights and concerns of long-time homeowners and Fort Erie residents.

Who are impacted: 

This will impact ALL residential zones in our entire Town through the proliferation and deleterious effects of Ghost Hotels. 

What is at stake: 

If this ill-conceived plan is adopted, our communities, our neighbourhoods, our safety, our peace and quiet, and our property values will be negatively impacted irreversibly. 

The time to act is now:

Plans are in place to present a proposal to Town Council in the next month. The Planning Act requires consultation and feedback from community members and neighbours like all of us. All impact statements, letters, emails and petitions must be considered. Make your voice heard. We will be submitting this petition to the Town as a demonstration of the support we have for the goals of the Fort Erie Community Preservation Coalition.
