Stop the Passage of H. R 899 Bill That Threatens Education Funding

The Issue

I pen these words not just as a single voice, but on behalf of a multitude — my friends, my siblings, and countless college students like us. We, who heavily rely on the funding from the government to pursue our educational dreams, are in fear. We find our lives disrupted by the looming shadows of the H. R. 899 bill. This proposed legislation aims to abolish the Department of Education, placing our goals, our hopes and our futures in jeopardy.

The Department of Education, despite its imperfections, plays a monumental role in our society. It ensures fair access to education, protects students, and helps us secure financial assistance. Its removal could erect barriers to education that many cannot surmount.

For us as students, this isn't a political tug-of-war; it's about our right to education. It's about the fear that one day we may wake up, unable to afford our dreams. Recent statistics show that around 15 million students benefited from grants and loans from the Department of Education in the 2019-2020 academic year alone. The abolition contemplated by H. R 899 would leave us, and many more to follow, grappling with the dreadful question of how to afford the education we all deserve. This isn't just about us. It's about every student who dreams and every family that aspires for a better future. It's about making sure that the door of opportunity remains open for all. Let your Senators know that you stand with us. Urge them to vote NO on the H. R. 899 bill. Let's stand together to protect our education, our dreams, and our futures. Please, sign this petition.
