STOP the Parkside Middle/ Morrisville High School Location Switch!

STOP the Parkside Middle/ Morrisville High School Location Switch!
The Issue
WCPSS School Board will most likely vote on this issue at the August 6th School Board meeting so we must gather signatures now!
We, local parents and concerned citizens, strongly request that the Wake County School Board does not change the designation of the current school building project next to Parkside Elementary to Morrisville High School. Please keep it as the Parkside Middle School.
Our reasons for being against this change are as follows.
- The timing is very sudden. Building is already underway and has progressed pretty far. The plan for this land was determined a few years back. Why the change now?
- Safety concerns over having a high school with students that are allowed off campus right next to an elementary school with younger students. There is also a road currently that connects the Parkside Elementary bus loop with the building site - if this road was to remain, it would also be a safety concern.
- High schools are more prone to lockdowns by nature and currently, the school grounds sits in an area where law enforcement agencies don't seem to agree who has jurisdiction if an emergency was to arise.
- Currently, we enjoy a very neighborhood feel with Parkside Elementary and would like to continue that with our middle school students. It is not as necessary with high school students. We also do not feel as safe transporting our middle school students to a very commercial area.
- Reassignment concerns. Our community has already been reassigned multiple times in the last 5 or so years - when Parkside Elementary was built, rezoning neighborhoods to Pleasant Grove Elementary. With the overcrowding of Alston Ridge Middle School, there are real concerns that another reassignment will occur before you build the new middle school if you delay it. Parents are getting frustrated. For example, Alston Ridge Middle lost 20 students this year to Triangle School of Math and Science. Wake County Schools risks losing more students and money.
- We are in disbelief that this is really about not having enough parking for the high school students in the current designated location. Think outside the box - if you have to limit parking to Seniors only or on a first come, first serve basis so be it!
- Last but not least, Breckenridge homeowners are not thrilled with having a high school stadium in their backyards.
In conclusion, we implore you to listen to ALL our concerns and vote against this change.
