Stop the Mass Killing in Iran, Invoke R2P Now

Stop the Mass Killing in Iran, Invoke R2P Now
The issue
Iran’s nationwide protests in 2026 have escalated into a full scale human rights emergency.
For more than four decades, the Islamic Republic has ruled through repression, including arbitrary arrests, torture, executions, censorship, and violent crackdowns on dissent. These abuses are extensively documented by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, and they have intensified dramatically during the current uprising.
The latest protests began in late December 2025 and quickly became nationwide demands for regime change. The regime’s response has been devastating.
Latest Estimates as of mid January 2026:
- At least 36500,000 protestors killed in just 48 hours!
- Hundreds of thousands injured
- Tens of thousands arrested, many without charges or access to lawyers
- Dozens of confirmed executions of detainees, with credible warnings of imminent mass executions starting
- Security forces have used live ammunition, metal pellets, mass beatings, sexual violence in detention, and enforced disappearances.
- Internet shutdowns and intimidation of families continue to conceal the true scale of the violence and the regime is trying to change the narrative on social media to blame foreign agents for the killings.
What can the international community do?
Iran has crossed the threshold for action under the United Nations principle of Responsibility to Protect (R2P). When a state commits mass atrocities against its own population, the international community has a legal and moral obligation to act.
Invoking R2P does not mean invasion or war. It means urgent, coordinated action to save lives and stop atrocities. This must include diplomatic pressure, targeted sanctions, international accountability, and limited, targeted military intervention focused solely on civilian protection. Measures such as no fly zones, protection of protest areas, prevention of mass executions, restoring internet access and international monitoring can significantly reduce casualties.
You can make a difference!
People and governments outside Iran can act immediately:
- Raise Awareness: Share verified information to counter censorship and increase global pressure.
- Pressure Political Leaders: Demand public condemnation of the regime and suspension of diplomatic and economic ties until abuses stop.
- Demand Action Under R2P: Call for coordinated international measures, including targeted protective intervention, to prevent further killings and executions.
- Support a Transitional Path: Advocate for a credible transition period leading to free and fair elections. Many Iranians view Reza Pahlavi as a unifying figure who can help facilitate this process while leaving Iran’s future decision to its people.
Call to Action
This is a call for urgent international action to stop mass killings in Iran. Your signature is also a pledge to stand with the Iranian people as they risk everything to end the Islamic Republic and reclaim their future. Each signature raises the cost of inaction for global leaders.
