Hillingdon council has proposed the implementation of a yearly fee for the collection of garden rubbish, a service that has been free of charge till now. This proposal is part of a so-called consultation document, however, there's a glaring lack of genuine consultation as no options to object are provided. This proposed fee could place undue financial stress on households, especially those on fixed or lower incomes. Garden waste is an integral part of our local waste cycle — often composing, on average, up to 14% of an entire Household's waste, according to data from the Environmental Protection Agency. By charging for this service, we risk increased instances of illegal dumping or improper disposal, leading to environmental harm.
