This grainy image was taken in the last few weeks of a seal in Cornwall that is the latest victim of a flying ring entanglement.

 

We know from our records, that this seal is approximately four years old and a regular visitor to the South West of England.

 

This entanglement has occurred recently as data records prove.

 

Its age means that it will continue to grow and the flying ring will cut deeper its flesh causing pain, suffering, misery and eventually death.

 

I wish I could guarantee it could be rescued and freed but I can not give you that assurance. 

 

The majority of seals cannot be rescued for a whole host of reasons therefore its fate is unknown.

 

Sadly, many retailers continue to sell these lethal flying rings.

 

We regularly send emails to major and smaller retailers pointing out the dangers and consequences of flying rings being lost or discarded.

 

We always invite them to work with us.

 

Back on 4th April 2024 the retailer Asda promised not to sell them and to remove them from shelves.

 

They have now done a U turn despite their promises (in writing) and have resumed selling them.

 

We are so disappointed with Asda as we want to work with all retailers large or small.

 

We have written to Asda and they will not reply to us.

 

As 1000's more are sold in the UK the risk of further entanglements increase and we really wish Asda had kept their promise.

 

I have now written to Asda Chief Executive Officer (UK) Mr Allan Leighton this week to ascertain his views....I hope he will reply as it's common courtesy especially on an issue as important as this.

 

I will keep you all updated should Mr Leighton respond....I hope he will.

This has been arranged by Tonia Antoniazzi MP and her team who are fully supporting the Save Our Seals from Flying Rings Campaign....thank you so much everyone.

 

The Drop In session will be an opportunity for invited MP's to visit us and have a chat about the way forward and how they can help via an 'MP Pledge' outlining their support.

 

We'll post an update about this in due course.
