Stop the import and sale of flying rings that cause pain, suffering and death to seals

Stop the import and sale of flying rings that cause pain, suffering and death to seals
The Issue
Seals are suffering painful injuries and often death by lost or discarded plastic flying rings floating in our seas.
These rings are potential toys to curious seals. A few moments of natural curiosity will soon turn into a nightmare when they become entangled around their necks.
As seals grow, the rings tighten causing infection, unnecessary pain, suffering and often death.
Sadly, many cannot be rescued but those which are, cost wildlife rehabilitation hospitals up to £15,000 for each seal in their care.
This enormous cost has resulted from a single flying ring costing a wholesaler on average, just 33 pence.
Flying rings are currently imported into the UK in their thousands.
They are purchased by innocent members of the public who have no idea of the consequences when these items are lost and end up in waterways and eventually in our seas.
We (UK Seal Alliance) urge the government to stop the import and sale of flying rings that cause unnecessary pain, suffering and death to seals.
The UK could be the first country in the world to actively ban these lethal items to protect our wildlife.
We also urge the government and local authorities, to protect our marine wildlife by actively encouraging the use of non-plastic solid disc frisbees as a safer alternative
We also ask retailers to stop selling flying rings but instead, sell the seal safe solid disc frisbees as an alternative.
In the time it has taken you to read this, it is likely another seal is about to get entangled therefore we must act fast.
By you signing this petition and not purchasing a flying ring, we’ll be one step closer to protecting our seals from unnecessary pain, suffering and death.
Your signature will make a valuable contribution so please share our concerns with all your friends and family for us to gain many more supporters just like you.
Thank you and don’t forget to only buy the alternative seal safe solid disc frisbees, preferably those that are non-plastic.
