I am a resident of Gannons Road, the very street where the proposed bike path and walking improvements are set to disrupt our lives. The project is set to remove street parking on Gannons Road and the surrounds of Burraneer Bay Road by Sutherland Shire Council and in its place add a walking and bike path.

As someone who relies on the already limited parking spaces outside my home, I am deeply concerned about the profound impact this project will have on daily life, not just for me but for every family on this street. Families with multiple cars or multiple residents will find themselves with nowhere to park. This is not just a minor inconvenience but a significant disruption to our way of living.

Beyond the immediate personal concerns, this plan poses a real threat to the safety and economy of our community. Entering and exiting our driveways will become a hazardous act, as we will constantly have to dodge an increased presence of bikes and pedestrians. The safety of our streets should not be compromised for pathways that do not adequately serve the needs of the current residents.

Moreover, the impact on local businesses cannot be understated. The proposed project will exacerbate the current parking shortage, making it significantly harder for customers to access the businesses of Our Father Cafe, Farm Gate to Plate and Honey Pot Waxing, which will decrease foot traffic for these local businesses, affecting their operation. This could result in a decline in our local economy, and a decrease in the quality of life for the entire community.

This proposal is not only disproportionate in its planning but also inconsiderate towards residents and who are paying for this with their taxes. The interests of pedestrians and bike users should be balanced with those of the residents and business owners to ensure a fair and just community plan.

We urge the local council and decision-makers to reconsider and ultimately quash this proposal. Let's prioritise the true needs and safety of our residents and foster a community plan that supports the local businesses and citizens.
