Stop the Export of Captive Orcas, Dolphins and their Semen
The Issue
As SeaWorld stocks are plummeting SeaWorld is looking outside the US to expand the captive industry, Wanda a corporation from China is interested in partnering with SeaWorld, this would mean that dolphins and whales housed in the US might be shipped to other countries.
The Wanda Group is looking for American business to expand their growth. "The Wanda Group" looks to be currently building SeaWorld style parks in China with an Aquatica style park currently under construction. SEAS (SeaWorld stock) has struggled recently with slipping attendance and there has been much speculation that Blackstone was looking to sell their shares of the company. As written in the The Orlando Tourism Report now believes that The Wanda Group from China are interested in a new partnership with SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment. The Wanda Group, backed by the richest man in mainland China, has previously expressed interest in American entertainment companies."
►Under no conditions cetaceans that remain in captivity or their by-products should be allowed to be transported to countries outside of the US where there is no guarantee that they will be afforded any protection by the MMPA.
►We ask that Congress and NMFS revise and make appropriate changes to the laws that govern exportation of cetaceans. The problem with transporting cetaceans is the trauma & stress they go through not only mental but also physical the longer the distance and time they are kept in transport boxes.
►At this time SeaWorld has the ability to ship semen out of the US internationallly through loop holes in CITES and the MMPA. We believe there should be a moratorium to export any by-products, dolphins and whales out of the USA, where they have no protection.
This should also include Lolita the Killer whale that is housed at the Miami Seaquarium. With Palace Entertainment's purchase of that dilapidated park and with their ownership of several water theme parks outside the US, that they may want to also export Lolita out of the country.
