The Issue

The blue zones represent our family farmland of 5 generations directly adjacent to the proposed batch concrete plant site in Kurtz Township, Clay County, MN—immediately across the river from Briarwood and Davies High School. The red zone represents land being sold and subdivided for industrial zoning.

Our family owns land directly adjacent to the proposed batch concrete plant site in Kurtz Township, Clay County, MN. As landowners and residents, we are deeply concerned about the numerous negative impacts this plant could have on our environment and community.

A batch concrete plant in our township will bring about significant environmental degradation. This type of facility is known for producing dust, which can travel long distances, affecting air quality and posing health hazards to humans and animals. Additionally, the facility could lead to further contamination of our limited water resources; this is especially worrying considering our township already faces water scarcity issues.

Moreover, Kurtz Township's infrastructure is not equipped to handle the additional strain from increased heavy truck traffic. Our rural roads are maintained to support local and agricultural traffic, not industrial volumes. Amplified noise pollution from both the plant operations and transportation activities will disrupt our otherwise tranquil community, affecting farms, wildlife, and the daily lives of area residents, including ourselves.

The presence of this concrete plant can also negatively impact property values in the surrounding areas, with the ever-present dust, noise, and traffic deterring potential homebuyers or renters who seek the quiet, rural lifestyle that Kurtz Township currently provides.

It is crucial for us to preserve the environmental integrity and unique quality of life in Kurtz Township. We implore the decision-makers in Clay County to deny the establishment of this batch concrete facility. There are alternative locations and solutions that questionably serve both industrial needs and community well-being.

Sign this petition to stand with us in protecting our township from industrial encroachment and to safeguard the health, environment, and serenity of everyone in our community. By signing, you are taking a vital step towards preserving the sanctity and sustainability of Kurtz Township.
