The issue

Cox Park in Lota, Queensland, is home to a cherished piece of our community’s history: the Old Netball Courts. These courts have been a vital part of our neighbourhood for decades.
NOTE: When they are bulldozed, they will be replaced by grass. This is not the site of the PickleBall courts which a will be at the other end of park and are only the size of one court.
The proposed demolition of the Old Netball Courts poses a significant loss to the community.

These old courts are used regularly for the enjoyment of locals and not-so-local residents for a variety of uses.

The replacement of these courts with a smaller footprint 4 pickleball courts is not  community focussed in our opinion. The current Old Courts are the perfect size for a multitude of activities.

The old courts are still used for social netball/basketball and practice, and most afternoons by parents with kids learning to ride their bikes or rollerblades, and more, in a safe and open environment which is easily monitored by parents. It is not just used by the immediate residents.

Whilst we acknowledge that the courts are no longer fit for team sports, it is still an important place for the community. We have a number of suggestions on how to retain the courts and will be presenting them to council ASAP.

The Old Courts are also used by a seniors’ group who enjoy them as a perfect place for a weekly activity. There is no other facility for this activity anywhere in the area, from Port Lytton to Redlands. This activity was developed purely due to the existence of the old courts.

The courts are unique, in that there is nothing else like them in the area.
They are public accessible.
There are no restrictions on what you can do on them, IE: they are ‘multi-purpose

PLEASE HELP US KEEP THE OLD COURTS. SIGN THE PETITION
