The Issue

In the heart of Moulton, Northampton, our community faces an impending decision that could make our overdeveloped village even more difficult to navigate. A proposal to develop a crematorium in a dedicated green wedge of our village, neighbouring a secondary school, has been met with concern and disappointment by numerous residents.

Many of us moved to Moulton for its serene village atmosphere, picturesque surroundings, and strong sense of community. Yet, this proposed development threatens to disrupt these very qualities. The proximity of the crematorium to a school raises paramount concerns about the emotional impact on students and the appropriateness of such a setting in a learning environment.

Moreover, during community consultations, a significant majority of residents expressed a strong preference for a community green space. A green alternative not only serves as a serene place for contemplation and relaxation but also enhances the ecological balance of our village. Such a space would be beneficial for mental health, recreation, and would strengthen community bonds.

Research suggests that the presence of green spaces in urban areas reduces stress levels, encourages physical activity, and fosters a greater sense of well-being among residents (Journal of Environmental Psychology, 2011). In contrast, the construction of a crematorium may lead to increased traffic, emissions, and a potential decline in property values.

We urge the relevant authorities to reconsider this development plan. Let's come together to promote a vision that aligns with the desires of the Moulton community—a vision that prioritizes well-being, community, and environmental sustainability over commercial gain.

Support us in our plea to halt this development by signing this petition. Join us in advocating for a community-focused solution that reflects our values and preserves the essence of Moulton for future generations to cherish.
