The Issue

The local businesses on Cleethorpe Road Grimsby have been the heart of our community for decades. As a long-standing local business owner, I have experienced firsthand the challenges we face in attracting and retaining customers. One vital factor that supports these small enterprises is the availability of convenient parking and drop-off points right outside our stores. Customers rely on this accessibility, and it significantly determines their shopping choices.

Now, this critical lifeline for our businesses is under threat. North East Lincs council has proposed building a bus lane right outside our businesses. While we understand the need for efficient public transportation, the creation of this bus lane will remove essential parking spots, which are crucial for our survival. Without these parking spots, customers will be deterred, drop offs and pick ups will be made harder and local businesses, already struggling in today's economy, will suffer profound impacts as a result.

Local businesses are not just about providing goods and services; they're a part of our shared identity, community culture, and local economy. By reducing foot traffic due to limited parking, the proposal will inadvertently lead to decreased revenue, potential shop closures, and loss of jobs.

With a large cost to complete the bus lane of tax payers money and an extremely minimal time saving for each bus between the times of 16.30 and 18.30 the question has to be why ?

This proposed plan could easily force businesses in the are to have to close or relocate and leaves local residents with a poor option of having to use back streets on dark nights to get to their vehicles.

Join us in urging North east Lincs Council to reconsider their plan. Let us preserve our local businesses which play a vital role in our community's unique character. Please sign this petition to make our voices heard and protect the livelihoods that depend on accessible parking and customer convenience.
