Stop the Buena Vista Project — Protect Solano Canyon, Lincoln Heights and Chinatown

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, stakeholders, and allies of Chavez Ravine, Solano Canyon, Chinatown, Lincoln Heights, and surrounding communities, strongly oppose the Buena Vista Project as proposed.

This proposed development threatens to disrupt our neighborhoods’ cultural heritage, ecological integrity, and long-standing community fabric.

The Buena Vista Project threatens the quality of life of historic Chavez Ravine, Solano Canyon, Lincoln Heights, and Chinatown, by disregarding:

  • Affordability, the need of local residents for deeply affordable housing
  • Environmental vulnerabilities, including wildfire-prone terrain, soil contamination, and sensitive ecosystems
  • Displacement risks for seniors, low-income families, and legacy residents who could never afford to live in the proposed Buena Vista project
  • Cultural erasure, undermining the rich Latino and Chinese heritage rooted in these areas and agonizing the re-traumatization of harmful displacement

We reject development that prioritizes profit over people. True progress must be locally accountable, environmentally sustainable, and culturally respectful. The Buena Vista Project fails to meet these standards.

We call on the Los Angeles City Council to:

  • Halt the Buena Vista Project immediately
  • Honor community-driven plans and zoning standards
  • Invest in restorative development that uplifts—not displaces—historic neighborhoods
  • Ensure transparency, rigorous environmental review, and inclusive engagement before any land-use changes

Solano Canyon and Chinatown are not blank canvases for speculative development. They are living communities with deep roots and clear visions for their futures. We demand a seat at the table that amplifies and affects the changes in our community.

Sign this petition to protect our homes, our history, and our right to shape the quality of life in our communities.
