Stop the Baiting of Gnaraloo — Protect Our Wildlife, Families and Dogs
The issue
We, the undersigned, call on the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) to immediately halt all plans for 1080 and Eradicat baiting between the South Gnaraloo boundary and the 6 Mile Gate within the Nyinggulu (Ningaloo) Coastal Reserve.
Gnaraloo is one of Western Australia’s most loved and iconic coastal destinations — a place where families, surfers, campers, and nature lovers have gathered for decades. It is also one of the last remaining dog-friendly beaches in the region, intentionally kept bait-free by the pastoral station to ensure the safety of pets, visitors, and wildlife.
The proposed baiting threatens wild dingoes, other native animals, and beloved family dogs. These poisons cause prolonged suffering, breaching the intent of the Animal Welfare Act 2002 (WA). Humane, science-based alternatives exist and must be implemented instead.
We demand:
- An immediate halt to all proposed or approved baiting in this region.
- A transparent, public review process that includes consultation with communities, Traditional Custodians, and conservation groups.
A commitment to modern, non-lethal management solutions that uphold animal welfare and community safety. - Gnaraloo’s reputation as a safe and family-friendly destination must not be destroyed.
- We stand together to protect this coastline — its wildlife, its people, and its cultural and ecological heritage.
Sign now to stop the baiting application in its tracks.
