The Issue

Do you love our countryside as much as we do?

If so, please stand with us and sign this petition. Together, we can protect one of the last remaining open spaces available to the residents of Alfreton and surrounding communities.

The proposed National Grid Chesterfield to Willington upgrade threatens to cause irreversible damage to this cherished landscape. This is more than just land — it’s a place for walking, wildlife, and wellbeing. Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good.

Let’s act now to safeguard our countryside for current and future generations.

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the proposal by National Grid Electricity Transmission [NGET] to erect pylons and overhead cables on the land west of Alfreton (described as Section 2 in NGET’s community newsletter of March 2026) on the grounds that the development there:

[1] would contravene key findings by inspector Paul K Jackson in two planning Appeal cases [dated 21st March 2016 reference APP/ M1005/W/15/3006136 (Inns Lane) and 5th December 2022, reference APP/M1005/W/22/3299953 (Solar farm west of Alfreton)] as to harm of heritage assets, in particular Wingfield Manor, a Grade 1 listed building within the top 1% of historic buildings in England, their settings, landscape quality and character and appearance of the area

[2] would also contraven policy NPP 12 of the South Wingfied Neighbourhood Plan

[3] would amount to a massive and disproportionate intrusion into the rural landscape harming leisure activities and non designated heritage assets of South Wingfied

[4] would cause disruption and distress to the children of Alfreton Park Community Special School
