The Issue
Stop the 10% Council Tax Hike in Newham!
We, the residents of Newham, call upon Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz and the Labour Councillors to immediately scrap their proposed 10% increase in Council Tax.
Newham is one of the poorest boroughs in London, and many residents are already struggling to make ends meet in the face of rising costs and financial uncertainty. This proposed tax hike is an unfair burden on hardworking families, pensioners, and those already facing hardship.
This increase comes at a time when the Council has shown a blatant disregard for financial responsibility. Recent reports suggest that the Council paid a significant sum—rumoured to be in the tens of thousands of pounds—to settle a court case involving Mayor Fiaz(1). It is unacceptable that residents are now being asked to foot the bill for mismanagement and wasteful spending.
Enough is enough.
We, the people of Newham, deserve better. We demand:
1. An immediate halt to the proposed 10% Council Tax increase.
2. Greater transparency and accountability in how the Council manages public funds.
3. A commitment to protecting the most vulnerable residents instead of punishing them for the mistakes of those in power.
We will not stand by while the Council's incompetence and profligacy force families into further financial distress.
