Stop soliciting $ for Family First through Florida's DMV website.

The Issue

When filling out an online driver's license application through the State of Florida's DMV website, the website prompts applicants to donate $ to Family First, a proclaimed "pro-family" organization that is actually a thinly-disguised religious organization that the Southern Poverty Law Group deems an anti-gay hate group.

See these links for information that links Family First to the Family Research Council, which is a Christian anti-gay hate group:

Note that Mark Merrill, the president of Family First, had a radio show that was first trademarked by Florida Family Council, Inc., a branch of the Family Research Council.  He has also spoken numerous times against same-sex marriage rights, and used his platform to oppose Disney's extending benefits to domestic partners.

That this organization solicits donations on the State of Florida's DMV website appalls me, especially considering the organization's religious affiliations, and strong institutional affiliations with anti-gay hate groups. Also, while it is possible through the Florida DMV website to donate to other charity organizations (such as the Society for the Blind, etc.), there is no pro-LGBT family organization offered as an alternative option. Not surprisingly, Planned Parenthood is also not on the list.

I believe that the DMV of The State of Florida should not be actively recruiting donations for a thinly-disguised religious organization, as it is a violation of the separation of Church and State.

This petition asks that the State of Florida remove all advertising of  Family First from their website, stop soliciting money for them, and stop producing license plates on their behalf.
