Stop Solar Facility in Lockyer Valley Farmlands

The issue

I love living in the countryside for its open spaces and natural beauty. The thought of having a solar facility disrupt nearby farmlands shatters the peace and tranquility that make rural living so appealing. People like us don't flock to the countryside to coexist with sprawling solar panels; we relish the scenic vistas and agrarian lifestyle that are possible here in the Lockyer Valley.

While the push for renewable energy is understandable, building solar installations in prime agricultural areas, like ours, threatens both the environment and our community. These massive solar farms can transform fertile farmlands into industrial sites, posing environmental and social risks.

The Lockyer Valley is renowned for its agriculture. It is part of Australia's food basket, supplying fresh produce to the rest of the country. By replacing these lands with solar panels, we risk losing a vital source of our food supply. Farmlands are precious for both local communities and the national economy.

Moreover, large-scale solar facilities could impact local wildlife, disturbing natural habitats and jeopardizing biodiversity. The reflective nature of solar panels may threaten birds and other wildlife species, adding to the ecosystem's disruption.

On a social level, the presence of expansive solar farms could lead to decreased property values and impact the rural charm, which is a significant attraction for many residents and potential newcomers.

There are alternative locations for renewable energy developments, such as rooftops and non-arable land, that wouldn't compromise our agricultural lands. We urge decision-makers to consider these options and protect the agricultural integrity of Lockyer Valley.

Sign this petition to help preserve our farmlands and keep the Lockyer Valley an unspoiled haven for future generations.
