Stop sex Trafficking and Coercion of Korean and Chinese Women into Sex Work in Australia

The issue

In 2013, an innocent man was tragically taken away from this Earth. Abraham Papo. Murdered outside of a Melbourne brothel as he fought against the cruel reality of women being kept there against their will. This was not an isolated incident - it's a grim snapshot of an insidious truth. We now use his memory as our rallying cry to demand an end to a horrific situation - Chinese and Korean women being coerced into staying in Australia illegally to work as modern-day sex slaves.

Currently, several Asian brothels operate throughout the country, exploiting the desperation of immigrant women and using loopholes in the law to their advantage. This systemic manipulation forces these women into the sex trade against their will, with many feared to be working under conditions comparable to slavery.

Approximately 4,300 individuals are estimated to be victims of trafficking each year in Australia, nearly half of whom are forced into sex work (Australian Institute of Criminology, 2017). This includes a significant number of Korean and Chinese women who, due to a lack of legal protections and the clandestine nature of their predicament, may be compelled into silence.

We cannot let this continue. Our government, judiciary, and law enforcement must act decisively to identify and close these establishments, and put measures in place to protect potential victims. We call upon our elected officials and judiciary to amend existing laws, cease any establishment found to be implicated in human trafficking, and provide much needed support for victims.

Please join us in demanding justice for Abraham and the countless other women whose voices have been silenced. Sign the petition. Let us show the world that every life is valuable and that no woman should ever have to endure such inhumane treatment!!!!!!!!!

be the change.
