Stop Redundant Upgrades to Saint Clair Park that Invite Homeless Encampments

Stop Redundant Upgrades to Saint Clair Park that Invite Homeless Encampments
The Issue
As a resident of Linwood Place II neighborhood, I cherish Saint Clair Park and support investments to improve it. However, the recently proposed upgrade plans for the park worry me. They include a redundant walking loop and a shade shelter that may unintentionally support the formation of homeless encampments, affecting the local neighborhood's safety and peace.
We believe our park deserves better. Saint Clair Park is underutilized and can transform into a vibrant, safe space with the right investments. At present, it's dimly lit and creates an atmosphere of unease after sunset. A 2018 study by the National Institute of Justice mentioned that improved outdoor lighting led to a significant 39% reduction in crime in parks and parking lots at night.
Thus, our suggestion includes additional lighting to make the park safer and more inviting. We also propose parallel street parking to slow traffic on Saint Clair Ave which will provide a safer environment for kids and pedestrians. We strongly urge for residents' inputs in redesigning our park. We believe the introduction of amenities like a pickleball court or a soccer pitch, as suggested by residents, will engage more people and foster a sense of community.
Let's reimagine Saint Clair Park together and make it a true neighborhood amenity. Please sign our petition to ensure the community's voices are heard in the redesigning of Saint Clair Park.
