Stop Public Funding for Religious Charter Schools

Stop Public Funding for Religious Charter Schools
The Issue
The U.S. Supreme Court is weighing whether to allow a Catholic institution to operate a taxpayer-funded charter school in Oklahoma, the first of its kind in the nation.
This is not just a local legal battle. If the Court rules in favor of St. Isidore Catholic Virtual School, it could open the door for religious organizations of all kinds to receive public funding to run schools that teach theology as fact, enforce religious doctrine, and exclude students or staff based on belief.
Charter schools are public schools. They must serve all students. They are funded by taxpayers. The moment they become religious institutions, the line between church and state is erased.
This case is not about religious freedom. It’s about government neutrality. Religious groups are free to open private schools but they should not be allowed to operate public schools while teaching religion as truth. That is not public education. That is state-sponsored religion.
If this precedent is set, states across the country could be forced to fund religious charter schools or dismantle their charter programs entirely. The effect would be immediate, widespread, and deeply harmful to the future of inclusive, secular education.
We are calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to protect the First Amendment and uphold the separation of church and state. Public schools must remain secular, inclusive, and accountable to all, not places of religious indoctrination.
Sign this petition to say clearly: public tax dollars should not fund religious schools.
