The Issue
Every time I drive on the roads in our area, I feel a surge of frustration and concern for my safety. The roads are either broken, breaking up, or beyond repair. It feels incredibly unfair that we are expected to pay road tax for roads that cause more harm than good. How many more car accidents need to happen due to hitting or avoiding potholes or road caves? Our safety should come first.
Roads should provide a reliable and safe infrastructure, yet what we have instead is a network of jokes that can seriously damage our cars. Despite paying road tax, which is meant to maintain and repair these roads, the councils are failing miserably at keeping them car-worthy. The irony is that while we are penalized for driving an unroadworthy car, councils face no consequence for maintaining roads that are not car-worthy.
If you have ever damaged your car due to the poor state of the roads, you know how hard it is to get compensation from the council. They refuse to acknowledge their responsibility, leaving the burden on us, the taxpayers and road users. It's time we take a stand.
We propose that until the roads are fixed properly, we should stop paying road tax. This is not just about getting our money’s worth, but about demanding accountability and safety from the local councils. Our communities deserve roads that are well-maintained and safe for all users - cars, bikes, and pedestrians alike.
By signing this petition, you are joining a collective demand for immediate action to repair and maintain our roads to a safe standard. Let your voice be heard, and let's push for the change our roads desperately need. Sign the petition today to demand car-worthy roads!
