Mountbatten car parks in Plymouth have long been a convenient and accessible resource for residents and visitors alike. However, recent decisions to implement new parking charges threaten the accessibility and affordability of this vital community asset. These car parks serve as crucial access points to the waterfront and recreational areas, providing space for families, athletes, and tourists to park before enjoying a day out by the water.

Introducing new charges will disproportionately affect those who rely on free or affordable parking, such as low-income families and individuals who use these facilities for their daily recreation or family outings. The new fees could discourage people from visiting, impacting local businesses that depend on the traffic generated by visitors. The ripple effect could result in decreased economic activity in the area, ultimately hurting the local economy at a time when it is still recovering from pandemic-related challenges.
