Stop Logan from buying into fossil fuels ever again!

The Issue

On April 1, the City Council of Logan, Utah, agreed to purchase a 20-year, 15-megawatt share in a natural gas plant near Pocatello, Idaho. After combining the plant's 30-year process of construction, energy production, and decommissioning, the equivalent of over 235 million pounds of CO2 will be released, worsening climate change, degrading Power County's air quality, and leading to worse health outcomes for citizens from Idaho and beyond.

We believe that this should be the last fossil fuel project Logan ever buys into. Fossil fuels aren't just detrimental to our environment—they've been impacting the health of our communities for centuries by worsening respiratory disease, increasing the risk of developmental delays, and claiming over 5 million lives every year. In addition, both scientists and economists agree that as more investments shift to renewables, further investment into coal, oil, and gas will only contribute to rising energy prices, and taxpayers will likely be left covering the cost.

It may not be possible to stop the construction of the Power County plant, but with your help, we can ensure that Logan never green-lights another carbon-intensive project, safeguarding our future, protecting our finances, and making sure that our emissions only go one way from here - down.
