Stop Killing Students of Bangladesh!

The issue

We call on the global community to join us in demanding an end to the violence and killings of innocent people in Bangladesh during Quota Protest. The recent wave of violence has led to the tragic loss of lives, leaving families devastated and communities in fear.

The quota protests in Bangladesh began as a movement led primarily by students demanding reforming quota system for government jobs where under the system, 44 percent of first- and second-class government jobs are “merit” based. The remaining 56 percent are reserved for specific communities: 30 percent for the children and grandchildren of freedom fighters. 10 percent for women.

 Protest demands were:

    - Cancellation of the existing quota system for government jobs.

   - Provision of the quota at fair rates to minority groups and disabled people.

    - Passing a new law in the parliament which establishes a new quota system for a maximum of 5% of total jobs.

The protests began peacefully with students from various universities across the country gathering to voice their demands for a more equitable job allocation system.

The situation escalated as law enforcement agencies responded with force, leading to violent clashes between protesters and police. Police shot and killed many students inhumanely in the streets.

The violence resulted many deaths and numerous injuries. Many students were detained, and allegations of police brutality and unlawful arrests surfaced.

Amidst the growing unrest, the government imposed an internet blackout, further fueling the anger and fear among protesters and the general populace. Whole country was cut off and isolated from the rest of the world.

The government could've handled this situation in a better way. Instead of settling the situation with the students peacefully government issued a shoot-at-sight curfew in response to the quota reform protests.

On behalf of all the Bangladeshi living in Australia we are all strongly against how Bangladesh Government is handling the situation. We are calling for a petition against this massacre.

Our demands..

  • Justice for Victims: We request for a thorough investigations and justice for all murders that have occurred during this period of unrest. The families of the victims deserve answers and accountability.
  • International Investigation: We call for an independent international investigation into each death that has taken place during the protests. This will ensure impartiality and transparency in uncovering the truth behind these tragedies.
  • Government Accountability: The government must issue statements addressing the accusations of genocide and explain their actions. Transparency is crucial to restoring trust and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
  • Release of Students: We urge the immediate release of all students who have been detained during the protests. Their voices and futures should not be silenced or jeopardized for standing up for their rights.
  • End the Massacre: The senseless killing must stop. We demand an immediate cessation of violence and the protection of innocent lives.
  • Internet Blackout Explanation: We ask for a clear and detailed explanation for the internet blackout imposed during the protests. Access to information is a fundamental right, and the blackout has further exacerbated the fear and confusion among the populace.

By signing this petition, you are standing in solidarity with the people of Bangladesh and supporting their right to live in peace and safety, help to seek justice for the victims and hold those responsible accountable.

Please sign the petition and share. Together we can make difference.
