Stop Hollywood from causing disruptions in Glasgow city center

Stop Hollywood from causing disruptions in Glasgow city center
The Issue
Being a taxi driver in Glasgow has always been challenging, but the recent trend of Hollywood films taking over our city center streets has pushed it to a breaking point. Each time a major film decides to use our vibrant city as a backdrop, it results in streets being cordoned off, causing relentless traffic jams. This doesn't just inconvenience me personally; it has a profound impact on my livelihood. Each day spent navigating through the city, I find myself unable to get my passengers to their destinations on time, affecting my income and resulting in dissatisfied customers.
Glasgow boasts a rich cultural heritage and a bustling city life that deserves to be respected and preserved. The frequent closures of city center streets for filming not only disrupt daily life for taxi drivers like me but also affects thousands of residents and other workers who rely on smooth transit. The economic impact is undeniable, with local businesses also suffering from reduced foot traffic and accessibility.
There needs to be a balance between welcoming the film industry and maintaining the daily functions of our city. Instead of completely shutting down key routes, we could require film productions to adhere to specified time frames, ensure alternative routes are well-communicated and accessible, and prioritize the scheduling of filming during off-peak hours.
The excitement of seeing Glasgow in major Hollywood films is undeniable, but it should not come at the cost of our daily lives and economic well-being. I urge the Glasgow City Council to address these recurring issues and ensure that the interests of local residents and workers are prioritized.
Please sign this petition to make our concerns heard and bring about a change that benefits both the film industry and the city of Glasgow.
