I am a resident of Cagayan de Oro, disturbed and deeply concerned about the increasingly prevalent cases of hazing rituals in our community. This has not only turned into a cause of worry, but also a personal matter to me as I have continuously witnessed the physical and emotional distress that our young people go through because of these harmful rituals.

Cagayan de Oro is a city known for its vibrant culture, warm people, and the value it places on education. But regrettably, this culture of hazing, which often involves initiation rituals in schools, universities, and organizations, has cast a shadow over our societal values. Although the Anti-Hazing Law of 2018 has been enacted in the Philippines, its enforcement in Cagayan de Oro seems to be insufficient. This puts our children and young adults in a risky and hostile environment, where instead of flourishing, they face potential harm.

Therefore, we demand that strict measures be taken immediately to halt these hazing rituals. We ask our local government units and education institutions to strictly enforce the Anti-Hazing Law and promote safer communities for learning and growth.
