Halton Region passed By-Law 21-41 in 2021 to ban Shisha in Halton (Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills). The By-Law enforcement starts in March 2023. Shisha has cultural roots in the Halton communities with backgrounds from the Middle East, Persian Gulf, Pakistan, India and beyond. This ban comes at a bad time for restaurants and cafés coming out of 2 years of Covid-19 shutdowns and capacity restrictions. Cafes may go bankrupt or lay off staff if this ban is enforced. With your support we are asking the Halton Region to postpone enforcement until 2025 to allow restaurants to make up losses from the pandemic.
