Stop GCSU from using AI across all fine arts departments.
Stop GCSU from using AI across all fine arts departments.
The Issue
As a student of the fine arts at Georgia College & State University, it has been truly disappointing to see the university allow the fine arts departments to use AI across a multitude of different areas including in drama and dance productions, in promotion for events using posters and flyers from media services and in the classroom.
I am using this petition to bring awareness to the university that the student body of the fine arts departments across campus do not support the use of AI within our fields of study, with AI being an industry that wrecks the environment, takes away opportunities from collegiate artists to contribute and collaborate between departments and steals intellectual property from artists across the world to create cheap, sloppy and unethical products using an exploitative form of technology.
We, the fine arts students of Georgia College & State University, ask President Cathy Cox and Dr. Indiren Pillay to prevent the use of AI going forward for all aspects of fine arts on and off campus. This includes use of generative AI material in theatre and dance stage productions, creation of promotional material from media services using any generative AI material, use of AI generated music in all events or media and the prohibition of AI in the classroom for fine arts education.
We hope that our commitment to awareness will encourage our university to take the actions to prevent the use of exploitative AI not just in the fine arts departments, but across the entire university going forward.
