Stop Foreign Aid to Egypt Until Human Rights Are Taken Seriously

Stop Foreign Aid to Egypt Until Human Rights Are Taken Seriously
The Issue
The United States is currently sending millions of dollars to the Mubarak regime in Egypt. This money, sent as foreign aid, rarely has any impact on the people of Egypt and mostly benefits the regime and it's military. Egyptians are currently protesting in Cairo, Suez, Alexandria, and many other regions of Egypt against corruption.
The United States foreign aid has assisted the police in buying rubber bullets, tear gas, and other equipment used against protesters. Protesters who according to news agencies including CNN, BBC, and Al Jazeera, are simply looking for any end to corruption and rigged elections. The president having served for 30 straight years and roughly half the population living on $2 a day according to the UN. The regime has also blocked Twitter, Facebook, and confinscated phones and cameras to deter protesters from sharing their story.
The United States stands for many things, including the civil liberties that the Egyptians are asking for. Let the U.S. send a clear message to the regime. That without proper adherence to human rights and civil liberties we do not and will not support them.
