Stop Forced Towing in Ontario

Stop Forced Towing in Ontario
The Issue
Protect Our Right to Choose Tow Services in Ontario
Across Ontario, drivers are increasingly being placed in situations where they are unable to choose their own tow service provider—even when they have already made arrangements with a trusted, licensed company.
Under the current Tow Zone Pilot Program, individuals can be redirected or effectively forced to use designated contractors, regardless of preference, proximity, price or prior contact. This raises serious concerns about consumer rights, fairness, and transparency.
For many, this means:
Waiting longer for assistance.
Being separated from a provider they trust.
Facing uncertainty during already stressful roadside situations.
At the same time, fully licensed operators approved by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario are being prevented from assisting their own customers or family members —despite meeting all regulatory requirements. This also means in many areas you are not allowed to change your own tire if you have the tools and know how or have a friend bring you gasoline if you happen to runout.
What This Petition Stands For
We support safe, regulated roadways. However, safety should not come at the cost of basic consumer choice.
This petition calls on the Government of Ontario and the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario to reform the Tow Zone Pilot Program to ensure:
Drivers retain the right to choose their own licensed tow provider.
Tow zone contractors should be used only when necessary, such as:
When no provider has been selected.
When safety risks demand immediate action.
When the driver is impaired or another illegal arrestable offense.
When a chosen provider cannot respond in a reasonable time.
Why It Matters
This is about more than towing. It’s about:
Protecting consumer freedom
Ensuring fair competition
Supporting small, licensed businesses
Maintaining trust in public systems
Take Action
If you believe drivers should have the right to choose who services their vehicle, add your name today.
Sign the petition and help restore fairness, transparency, and choice to Ontario roads.
