I've always valued the sense of freedom and privacy that we cherish. However, the encroaching presence of flock cameras and AI-driven data centers threatens our very way of life by compromising our fundamental freedoms. It's not about what these technologies have affected so far, but about preventing them from compromising our future—our freedom, our water, our resources, and our health.

Flock cameras, which are already being installed in many neighborhoods, collect streams of data on our everyday activities. These cameras are equipped with advanced facial recognition algorithms that pose a significant threat to privacy, tracking our moments and movements without our consent. Reports indicate that such surveillance measures can lead to misuse of data, increased paranoia among citizens, and even wrongful accusations. The lack of transparency and regulation around how this data is used only adds to the threats posed to our communities.

AI data centers exacerbate this growing concern. These facilities use massive amounts of our natural resources, particularly water, to cool their systems. A typical data center can use as much as 300,000 gallons daily and a larger one can use 5 million gallons daily leading to depletion of local water resources. This unsustainable use of water is alarming, our rivers and reservoirs are running dry, the fires are not getting better they are getting worse. We live off of water.

We are not against technology, but we advocate for its responsible use. There is a pressing need to establish transparent and strict guidelines for the use of flock cameras. Implementing policies that limit data collection to what is necessary, ensuring data security, and mandating public consultation before installation are vital steps to ensuring our freedoms are respected. Similarly, AI data centers must be required to utilize sustainable practices, recycle water, and switch to renewable energy sources to reduce their environmental impact.
