Two Massachusetts legislators have introduced a bipartisan bill that would ban the use of gestation crates for pigs, battery cages for chickens, and veal crates in the Bay State. If they're successful, Massachusetts would join the small but growing list of states who are standing up to the agribusiness industry and putting a stop to the industry's cruelest confinement practices.

Battery cages, gestation crates, and veal crates are tiny and cramped, without enough room for an animal to turn around, stretch, or even lie down comfortably. Animals in factory farms can spend their entire lives trapped in one of these. It's an inhumane practice, and it should be stopped.
