Stop DRC violence! Demand immediate action to end sufferings of innocent civilians

The Issue

We, the undersigned, strongly condemn the ongoing violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where the M23 rebels, allegedly backed by the government of Rwanda, continue to wreak havoc on the lives of innocent civilians. This conflict has resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians—particularly women, children, and the elderly—and has killed many people, displaced millions, and made thousands of people refugees.

For over three decades, Rwanda has been involved in the destabilisation of the DRC, with violent incursions into sovereign Congolese territory, including the occupation of North Kivu Province and the capture of Goma. This conflict has led to widespread suffering, including the deaths of UN peacekeepers and soldiers from the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Despite these efforts to bring peace, the situation remains dire. Currently, there are around 1,300 peacekeepers trapped in the Sake area, and another 220 in the Kanyabayonga region, unable to receive essential supplies due to ongoing rebel attacks.

As the Southern Africa Network for Immigrants and Refugees (SANIR), we are deeply concerned about the rising number of refugees and displaced persons because of this conflict.

We urgently call on the international community, including the United Nations, the European Union, and other key nations, to take immediate action to:

Pressure Rwanda and the M23 rebels to stop their violent actions and engage in meaningful peace talks.
Provide humanitarian aid to those affected by the conflict, ensuring the protection and safety of displaced individuals.
Hold accountable those responsible for perpetuating violence and destabilisation in the region, including those involved in backing rebel groups.
Work with regional and international bodies to ensure long-term peace and stability in the DRC.
The ongoing crisis in the DRC is not just a regional issue—it is a global issue that requires urgent and sustained intervention. We stand in solidarity with the people of the DRC and call on global leaders to act decisively to bring an end to the violence and suffering.

We demand immediate action and justice.

Sign the petition today to stand with the innocent victims of the DRC conflict.
