Stop Discrimination of Engineering Technologists in Pakistan

Stop Discrimination of Engineering Technologists in Pakistan
The Issue
After completing my FSc Pre-Engineering, I pursued a BSc in Civil Engineering Technology from the University of Technology Nowshera, achieving a 3.22 CGPA. Despite this accomplishment, I face significant challenges in my career because the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) does not recognize graduates like me for job opportunities. The PEC discriminates against Engineering Technology graduates in Pakistan, denying us the career paths and opportunities that are rightfully ours.
This discrimination stems from the PEC's alignment with the Washington Accord, which prioritizes traditional engineering degrees over Engineering Technology degrees recognized under the Sydney Accord. This prejudice is not only unfair but also contradicts international norms and practices, which uphold equality and mutual recognition of qualifications.
Engineering Technologists are as vital to the engineering field as traditional engineers. Both play critical roles in innovation, infrastructure development, and technological advancement. Countries that adhere to the Sydney Accord recognize the contributions of Engineering Technologists equally, ensuring fair job opportunities and career development.
In Pakistan, this bias has limited countless graduates' potential, just as it has mine. Without the PEC's endorsement, Engineering Technology graduates like myself are shut out from the public and private sectors, leaving us with a degree but without a viable career. This not only hinders personal growth but also restricts the country's progress by not utilizing all available skilled professionals.
We are calling on the PEC to end this discrimination and to recognize Engineering Technology degrees in accordance with the Sydney Accord. By aligning with international standards, PEC can ensure that all engineering professionals have equal opportunities for employment and contribution regardless of their specific degree.
This change would not only open doors for thousands of graduates but also promote a more inclusive, progressive, and competitive engineering industry in Pakistan. It is time for parity and fairness in the engineering field, reflecting true meritocracy and global best practices.
Please sign this petition to support equal opportunities for all engineering professionals in Pakistan, ensuring a fair future for Engineering Technologists like myself and many others. Together, we can urge the PEC to embrace equality and align with international standards.
