STOP DEADLY POLLUTANTS ENTERING COROWA ECOSYSTEM
STOP DEADLY POLLUTANTS ENTERING COROWA ECOSYSTEM
The issue
It won’t affect the proprietors of the proposed business as they are NOT local people and do not live in Corowa.
We are concerned Corowa residents dedicated to maintaining our local pristine environment and quality of life for all citizens.
We believe that the proposed re-purpose of a building located at 10 Bow Street Corowa to a Laundromat and Dog Wash (Federation Council Planning application #10.2026.95.1) called "The Washup" is expected to severely impact the local waterways, flora, fauna and waterfowl by contamination leeching from existing underground dilapidated fuel tanks and numerous other contaminants dumped on site. Increased pressure/capacity being placed on old plumbing and drainage will further increase contamination potential.
If the grey water waste from the proposed business mixes with the contaminants and enters the sewerage system it will cause irreversible and irreparable devastation to our local environment.
Numerous waterfowl inhabit the Corowa Waste Water facility either permanently or on their migration path. Protected species such as Magpie Geese and the critically endangered Sloane Froglet use this area as habitat.
THE BUILDING HAS INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ASBESTOS.
Any renovations are expected to cause severe airborne fallout to surrounding businesses including the Health & Fitness Gym, Physiotherapist, and Sleep Apnoea Clinic, where patrons of various health concerns regularly frequent.
There is an existing dog wash owned and operated by a local business who resides in Corowa no less than 50 metres of the proposed dog wash. This will cause over supply and detriment to parties concerned including local mobile grooming services. The two dog washes already in Corowa service the community needs sufficiently.
Support Our Cause: We are seeking your support in advocating for the rejection by Federation Council to reject the above Planning Permit Application. We believe 10 Bow Street Corowa is a declared "contaminated" site. Contamination by fuel, oil or asbestos will cause a devastating result to the our Community.
Our waterway ecosystem and the Murray River is the lifeblood of Corowa
