Stop bullying in Schools in Zimbabwe - URGENT Intervention by Ministry of Education

Stop bullying in Schools in Zimbabwe - URGENT Intervention by Ministry of Education
The Issue
Bullying is a problem that affects millions of students of all races and classes. According to our random sample survey, conducted in 2021 online, 96% of children in schools have experienced bullying in one way or the other and 84% have experienced it from another student while 16% have experienced it from their teachers. The survey also reveals that 48% say it was verbal ,while 32% say it was physical bullying and about 12% say it was social bullying . Many students stay home on any given day because they're afraid of being bullied.
Child and teen Bullying and Cyberbullying are at an all-time increase. Some children are seriously injured as seen from the case of Isaac Nyandoro ,the Grade 3 Henry Low Primary Student, and Wayne Ndlovu ,the Founders High Student who was fatally stabbed. Some children are so tormented that suicide has become an alternative for them as noted from the recent suicide case by a form 3 student from Hamilton School, Jayden Sudan.
It has everyone worried. Not just the children on its receiving end, but the parents and others who may not understand how extreme bullying can get.
And bullies don't stop there! Hate groups are created on the Internet and WhatsApp. It's wrong and it's harmful!
We cannot lose more of our youth to suicide as a result of bullying and cyberbullying. The parents of Wayne Ndlovu, Isaac Nyandoro, Jayden Sudan, La-Keisha Moyo and countless others know that pain.
ENOUGH is ENOUGH. We can no longer accept ignorance, hatred, cruelty and intolerance.
We can no longer accept the many schools across the country who are sweeping this issue under the rug!
Please join Lerato Project, a signature program of Lerato Foundation (www.facebook.com/leratofoundationzw ) in getting national legislation passed that makes it mandatory for every school in this country to enforce anti-bullying policies. Require schools to pay penalties if they do not enforce anti-bullying policies and help medically every student who is bullied; as well as getting medical help for the bullies.
Lerato Foundation, focuses on reducing and preventing bullying, cyberbullying and other digital abuse, decreasing school absenteeism, educating against albinism, racism and hatred and deterring violence in schools, online and in our local community. Our vision is to create safer learning environment for all Zimbabwean Schools in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG4: Quality Education; SDG3: Good Health and Wellbeing and SDG16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
Show victims that you care and create a safer environment in every school across the country and online everywhere!
Please add your voice and sign this online petition and STOP Bullying™!
Our goal is to deliver 200 signatures to the Ministry of Education by May 2023 before Schools reopen.
We can't lose one more student! We can't have one more student tormented!
Together, we can give children a world where they are safe …a world where their voices are not small, ignored and unheard. And together we can listen ...as we raise the volume, so that everyone hears our message.
