Ohio currently has an anti-bullying law passed in 2006 that does not enumerate (identify) groups that are affected by bullying, that does not address schools jurisdiction over cyber-bullying, and fails to require school staff and volunteers to have anti-bullying training. The Comprehensive Safe Schools Act which includes House Bill 116, House Bill 155, House Bill 208 and Senate Bill 127 change this.

From 2006-2008 four students from Mentor high school had killed themselves due to bullying. One was bullied for being gay, another for having a learning disability, and another for being a boy who happened to like wearing pink.  Currently two of the students families are suing the Mentor School District for failing to provide a safe environment. This is a statewide problem.

The Comprehensive Safe Schools Act which includes House Bill 116, House Bill 155, House Bill 208 and Senate Bill 127 will provide a safe environment for our kids and give staff the means to end bullying.
