The Issue

Petition to Oppose the Construction of Buc-ee’s in Conyers - Location : Exit 78 Sigman Road , 2527 Sigman Road SW

The residents of Conyers, Georgia, strongly oppose the proposed construction of a Buc-ee’s in our community—especially one being placed in the backyards and back doors of local neighborhoods.

While Buc-ee’s may be popular along highways, its massive size, 24/7 operations, and extremely high traffic volume are not appropriate for a residential community like Conyers. Building a large-scale travel center so close to homes would negatively impact residents through increased traffic congestion, constant noise, light pollution, environmental damage, and safety concerns.

Our neighborhoods should not bear the burden of a development that prioritizes travelers over residents. A project of this scale threatens property values, disrupts daily life, and places unnecessary strain on local roads, infrastructure, and emergency services.

Conyers is a community that values its families, neighborhoods, and local character. We respectfully urge county leaders and decision-makers to listen to residents and protect our quality of life by rejecting the construction of a Buc-ee’s in our backyard.

By signing this petition, we stand together to say: our homes are not a back door for massive commercial development.

FACT SHEET

Concern About a Proposed Buc-ee’s Development in Conyers, Georgia

 1. Increased Traffic Congestion

Buc-ee’s locations are designed to attract thousands of vehicles per day, often overwhelming nearby roads and exits. Local streets not built for highway-level traffic may experience backups, accidents, and delays—especially during weekends and holidays.

2. Disruption to Residential Quality of Life

24/7 operations, high mast lighting, loud vehicle noise, and constant activity are incompatible with nearby neighborhoods.
Residents may experience sleep disruption, loss of privacy, and reduced enjoyment of their homes.

 3. Property Value Concerns

Large-scale commercial developments near homes can negatively affect property values and market desirability due to traffic, noise, and safety perceptions.

4. Light & Noise Pollution

Buc-ee’s facilities operate with extensive lighting visible for miles, contributing to light pollution.
Continuous truck and car traffic increases ambient noise levels day and night.

 5. Public Safety & Traffic Risks

Increased traffic volume raises the risk of:

Vehicle accidents
Pedestrian safety issues
Emergency response delays

Local police, fire, and EMS services may be stretched without guaranteed funding increases.

6. Environmental & Health Concerns

Large fuel stations introduce risks related to:

Fuel spills or underground storage leaks
Air pollution from idling vehicles
Stormwater runoff affecting nearby land and waterways

7. Human Trafficking Concerns

Atlanta is widely recognized as one of the nation’s largest hubs for human trafficking, due to its highway access, airport, and population flow.
High-traffic, 24/7 travel centers can unintentionally create environments where trafficking activity is harder to detect.
Residents are concerned about placing a major travel hub close to family neighborhoods, schools, and parks.
This concern is about location and scale, not an accusation against any single business.

8. Strain on Infrastructure & Taxpayers

Road widening, traffic signals, and safety improvements are often funded partly by taxpayers, not developers alone.
Long-term maintenance costs may outweigh projected economic benefits

Conyers is a community of neighborhoods—not a highway rest stop.
Residents support responsible growth that aligns with existing zoning, infrastructure, and long-term planning goals.

This isn’t against Buc-ee’s. This is against putting a mega travel center in our small community!
