Stop Belleisle golf development
The Issue
South Ayrshire Council have opened up Public Engagement on their proposals to develop improved facilities at Belleisle golf course with this closing on 31st October 2024
South Ayrshire Council for around 10 years have been trying to develop a Golf Academy, Gold Development Centre, or any other manifestation they can come up with.
Previous sites considered have been –
• Maybole Golf Course
• Seafield Golf Course
• Rozelle former ‘Pitch and Putt’ course
Now they want to destroy the iconic James Braid deigned and well-respected Belleisle golf course.
The latest proposal prepared by Pangaea Golf Architecture in association with Paul Lawrie still, although much less that any previous proposal, destroy the course and reduce dramatically its reputation.
The vast majority of golf clubs playing mostly over the Belleisle Park golf courses are vehemently against this ‘vanity project’ which apparently has been developed on the back of a survey where the question was around ‘improved practice facilities’ with no mention of iconic course destruction, or even alteration!
You will have noticed that South Ayrshire Council are developing a 'Driving Range' using the first 260 yards of the iconic first hole at Belleisle course. We are vehemently against this proposal which would lose the first hole, create a new long par hole on the existing Practice Area and make other alterations to reduce the championship standard par 71 course down to a par 69 course with six par 3 holes. A detailed plan is available at SAC for the public to read, we believe there to be flaws with Health and Safety, Welfare Facilities and Management e.g. Opening times, Is flood lighting included, Public access/dog walkers etc.
let’s stop the intended vandalism of James braid designed course.
