The issue

Hoffman Rocks-Steps & Handrail into water would help people understand where to safely enter and exit the water using 3 points of contact.

Barolin rocks - north Hill steepness needs steps. South side needs steps into pool area.

Whilst a long stair way, pontoon would be ideal, big sea conditions and also access for machinery for works could be too destructive as it is a marine park and needs to be protected. Although the grass area Hill needs attention.

Snorkelling and diving areas here in Bargara Queensland are in need of safer entry/exit steps and handrail to assist people entering the ocean at sites such as Hoffman rocks or Barolins dive site. These are the main 2 sites used by many locals and visitors. Both sites can be found by Google search and are describe as dive locations that are very popular in our area.

Many local and visitors struggle to find there way safely into the ocean due to basalt rock formations along our coastline from the extinct hummock volcano and at times ocean conditions. Climbing over corals, slipping and falling from difficult points of entry. Destroying parts of our marine ecosystems,  by damaging corals in our great sandy marine park without any idea that there is an ongoing effect to the whole coastal corals system.

Risks-

  • slips
  • falls
  • breaks & cuts

Coral reefs-

  • damage
  • contamination
  • stings
  • stress

During a scuba dive 2022 at Hoffman rocks there was an incident where I entered the water in full scuba equipment (40kgs) from a ledge and landed badly in shallow water breaking my ankle. I ended up at Bundaberg Base Hospital for 4 days.  Surgery was performed and 2 large screws were used to pull the ankle bone into place so it would heal correctly, without that surgery I may have not walked properly again.

I was bed ridden for serveral weeks while the bone healed, moving from a cast to a moon boot. I was unable to do very much for serveral months.

Its march 2023 and in the past 6 weeks i have just gotten back to a semi normal diving life, but i still have pain in that ankle and take extra care now in daily life.

injury in 2022 at Hoffman rocks

Risk of falls, slips and serious injuries ending in surgeries and hospitalisations

Difficult entry and exits for snorkellers swimmers and divers, damaging equipment, loss of equipment causing pollution risks of our ocean.

This damage of our reefs and personal incident factors could be vastly reduced with the help of some form of handrail, steps for everyone who visits and uses our swimming areas.

Help us to ask for appropriate government assistance by supporting our petition.
